On September 10th, 2001 the defending NFC Champion New York Giants opened their season with a 31-20 loss to the Broncos on Monday Night Football. Early the next morning, their somber flight from Denver landed at Newark Airport where - unbeknownst to the world - history was tragically preparing to unfold.

As a fan of the Giants and being from New York City I wanted to see the Jets and Giants play the September 11th game this season. We all remember where we were on that day and can remember how all sports paid tribute to the effected in the weeks afterwards. This being the 10 year anniversary I, along with many other fans, thought it was a lock that both New York teams would face each other.

We were all surprised to see that The New York Jets were to host The Dallas Cowboys at the Meadowlands and that the Giants would be traveling to play the Redskins in Washington DC. I admit at first I thought that this was a big mistake by the league. ?It was a missed opportunity for something special,? I said.
