NEW YORK -- As the first round began to fade Thursday night at the NBA Draft, Kentucky big man Skal Labissiere remained in the Green Room at Barclays Center.

Time will tell whether or not Labissiere, who struggled in his one season in Lexington, made a mistake by leaving school early, but for now, the Haitian-born forward is a millionaire.

Once projected as the No. 1 overall pick by DraftExpress, Labissiere was selected 28th overall by the Phoenix Suns, who will send him to the Sacramento Kings. He was one of two Kentucky players to be selected in the first round after classmate and Canadian sensation Jamal Murray was chosen seventh overall by the Denver Nuggets.

If Tyler Ulis does indeed have a significant hip issue, as is being reported, it comes as a surprise to John Calipari.

A report from Basketball Insiders last week stated that Ulis, Calipari's 5-foot-10 point guard who declared for the NBA Draft after his sophomore season, has a "pretty significant hip issue, which some believe may require surgery down the line."

Addressing the media via conference call on Tuesday morning, two days before the Draft, Calipari seemed as surprised as some other people.

A year ago, seven Kentucky players declared for the NBA Draft following the college basketball season -- and six of them were drafted.

Now that Kentucky has been ousted from the NCAA Tournament by Indiana, 73-67, similar decisions will be looming for several Wildcats.

Freshman guard Jamal Murray and freshman big man Skal Labissiere are both projected as lottery picks by DraftExpress.com, with the 6-foot-5 Murray at No. 7 and the 7-foot Labissiere at No. 10.

He may be small, but he has a big game and a big heart.

Kentucky sophomore guard Tyler Ulis , who is 5-foot-9, became the shortest player ever to win SEC Player of the Year honors on Tuesday. LSU's Chris Jackson, at 6-feet, was the previous smallest winner (1989 and '90), per Kyle Tucker of the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Kentucky freshman sharpshooter Jamal Murray joined Ulis on the All-SEC First Team, while also earning All-SEC Freshman Team honors. In addition to the SEC Player of the Year honors and First Team All-SEC honors, Ulis headlined the All-Defensive Team.

NEW YORK -- At 5-foot-9, Isaiah Thomas knows a thing or two about being considered too short for the NBA.

Thomas was the "Mr. Irrelevant" of the 2011 NBA Draft, when he went 60th to the Sacramento Kings.

Among the 59 guys taken ahead of Thomas that year were Derrick Williams, the No. 2 overall pick; Jimmer Fredette at No. 10; Josh Harrelson at No. 45; and Josh Selby at No. 49.
