The Rangers won consecutive games for the first time since the All-Star break, defeating the Flyers on the road, 3-0, on Sunday.

Goaltender Alexander Georgiev was excellent in net once again, stopping all 29 shots he faced. He's now made 62 consecutive saves.

The team received goals from a trio of players in the well-rounded offensive effort. >> Box score

A practically lost season for the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist is going to be even more barren as the calendar flips to April.

With the team well out of playoff contention, the team is expected to sit the 37-year-old goaltender and organizational stalwart for the majority of remaining games. Backup goalie Alexander Georgiev, who started in Philadelphia on Sunday, is expected to receive most of the playing time in net.

The team prepped for Lundqvist for this decision by keeping an open dialogue with him.

After allowing two goals in a 27-second span during the first period, the Rangers rallied to defeat the Blues Friday night, 4-2. Rookie goaltender Alexandar Georgiev made 44 saves, and his six 40-save games are the second-most by a rookie in franchise history behind Mike Richter's seven. Jimmy Vesey scored the go-ahead goal in the third and Chris Kreider's empty-netter snapped an 11-game goalless drought. >> Box score

New York won 3-2 at Boston on Jan. 19 -- the Bruins' most recent regulation home defeat -- and 4-3 in a home shootout Feb. 6. But the Rangers enter amid a 2-7-5 stretch following Monday's 5-2 home loss to Pittsburgh.

Goals by youngsters Brendan Lemieux and Vinni Lettieri gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead late in the first period against the Penguins. However, New York managed 19 shots on goal over the next two periods after recording 16 in the first.

"First period, we were all over them," defenseman Brady Skjei told the Rangers' official website. "Just kind of got away from it. >> Read More

Alexandar Georgiev is a puzzle the Maple Leafs cannot solve. The rookie goaltender made 44 saves and Ryan Strome scored in overtime to give the Rangers a 2-1 win in Toronto Saturday night, snapping a five-game losing streak. Georgiev, who made 42 saves in regulation on Saturday, stopped 55 of 56 Maple Leaf shots on Feb. 10 at MSG. He's the first Rangers goalie since the 1967-68 expansion to record multiple 40-save wins against the same team in a season. The Rangers had lost 11 of their previous 12 games. >> Box score

The Rangers (28-32-13), who are out of playoff contention, are coming off a 3-2 home loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

They have had three days to prepare for Toronto. The teams have split their first two meetings this season.

Defenseman John Gilmour and forward Vinni Lettieri were called up from Hartford of the American Hockey League for the game Tuesday. Lettieri played in his 19th game for the Rangers this season. Gilmour played in the Rangers' final 28 games last season but was playing his first NHL game this season.

The Rangers arrive in the Stampede City having lost eight times in nine games, although they've collected five charity points (1-3-5). New York is coming off a 4-1 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks, a loss essentially decided during a five-plus-minute stretch in the second period.

After Chris Kreider was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for elbowing, Brendan Lemieux was given a major penalty, too, for a hit to the head. The Canucks tallied three times in just over three minutes. Two goals came 11 seconds apart.

"You lose two forwards and you're completely out of sync," coach David Quinn said. "You kill (10) minutes of penalties in that period, I mean really, you're really at an incredible disadvantage. I thought we got off to a good start. I liked our pace in the first period, I really liked our energy. I thought we had a real good first period. Then it just completely unraveled in the second period."

The Rangers have earned at least a point in three straight games following back-to-back overtime defeats. They fell behind 2-0 and 3-1 to league-leading Tampa Bay on Wednesday, but rallied to force overtime with three second-period goals before falling in the extra session.

"If that's what we're going to do against the elite teams in the league, I like the direction we're going," Rangers coach David Quinn said.

Jimmy Vesey recorded a goal with an assist in the loss. He has one goal with two assists vs. Montreal this season.

Alexandar Georgiev made 26 saves against the Lightning, but Henrik Lundqvist could return to the net on Friday. Lundqvist went 1-4-2 with a 3.16 goals-against average in February, but he made 31 saves in the November home win over the Canadiens. >> Read more

A pair of backup goalies are scheduled to draw the start Wednesday night.

With the Bruins playing the second game of a back-to-back set, Jaroslav Halak will start in place of Tuukka Rask, who earned the win Tuesday by making 28 saves. Halak last played Jan. 29, when he took the loss after recording 24 saves as Boston fell to the Winnipeg Jets, 4-3, in the shootout.

Alexandar Georgiev will start for the Rangers as No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundqvist takes a seat. Georgiev also hasn't played since Jan. 29, when he took the defeat after making 18 saves in New York's 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Jeff Gorton said in June that he believes the Rangers have internal options, Alexander Georgiev and Martin Mazanec, to back up Henrik Lundqvist this coming season.

Gorton said this week that Georgiev looked "good" during his time with the Rangers this past season but that when it comes to the back up situation right now, they will "let it all play out." (MSG)

Current UFA goalies include Kari Lehtonen, Steve Mason, last year's back up Ondrej Pavelec, Anders Lindback and Jeff Glass.

6:07PM: Vigneault spoke about Georgiev after practice on Tuesday and said, "he has played well, like I mentioned before the game, he is a battler. I like his positioning in goal and rebound control, he will play tomorrow. He has won his last two games but at the end of the day, for us right now, it's about if we have a potential backup for Hank. Young player, we will see what he can do against a real good team tomorrow."

Will he play more the rest of the year, "there is no doubt that moving forward he will get some games. He has won his last two starts and we need to find out about this young goaltender who seems to have some good upside. We will give him a chance tomorrow against the Stanley Cup Champs. He seems mentally ready for it. We will put him in and see what he can do."
