Also, the Mets already employ a similar hitter at Dykstra's position,?Lucas Duda,?and the Mets cannot afford to carry another left-handed hitting first-base-only player.

The Mets handed the organizational hardware to 1B Allan Dykstra, C Kevin Plawecki and RHP Gabriel Ynoa. In this case, Plawecki and Ynoa are prospects who matter.
PlaweckiThe Mets started the 22-year-old Plawecki, their supplemental first round pick in the 2012 draft in Savannah, where he hit a loud .314/.390/.494 in a pitcher's park in 65 games to earn a promotion to advanced-A after the Gnats clinched a first half title. By late May, it was clear, to those inside and outside the system, that he was ready to move. The Mets allowed him for finish the first half in Savannah and attend the SAL All-Star Game in Lakewood before departing for advanced-A and the Florida State League. In the FSL he dealt with various minor injuries including a back and usual catcher maladies like balls that hit him in places that hurt. He hit .294/.391/.392 in advanced-A, with his on-base percentage sustained by 14 HBP in 60 contests.

From a value perspective with the bat, Dykstra is a worthy choice. Over the full season, he was the most productive hitter on the League's best team. (I suspect had he played, and hit well in August, this would have been Cesar Puello's award.) The 26-year-old Dykstra hit .274/.436/.503 with 22 doubles, 21 homruns, 102 walks and 123 strikeouts in 122 games. It's a modest credit to the award's voters that they looked past Dykstra's sub-.300 batting average to pick the guy leading the League in on-base percentage and slugging, (and walks, who was fourth in RBI and tied for fifth in homeruns).
In advanced metrics, Dykstra was #1 in the Eastern League in both wOBA (.423) and wRC+ (163).

Some considered Dykstra to be a better prospect than?Ike Davis?coming out of college, mainly because of his power and his ability to get on base. He was a sabermetrician's dream player, which could explain why Sandy Alderson traded for him in 2011.
Others considered Dykstra a guy whose game would not translate into the professional ranks.?He would have to undergo major swing overhauls if he was ever going to have success hitting with a wooden bat. Defensively, he would be limited to first base due to his size -- 6 feet 5 inches tall and 240 lbs.

There were games. And the B-Mets split 'em, losing in walkoff fashion in game one before rallying in game two. However, the most important thing: RF Cesar Puello's return to the B-Mets' lineup. Puello missed seven days after hurting his finger on a stolen base attempt in Trenton on June 11. In the two games on the day of his return he combined to go 4-for-7 with two doubles, four runs scored, two RBI, a strikeout and of course, a HBP (his 11th this year). In 55 games in AA at age 22, Puello is raking at .338/.410/.613. He's third in the Eastern League in batting average, second in slugging percentage, tied for second in homers and third in stolen bases. According to Baseball Reference, Puello has had only four plate appearances against pitchers who are younger than he is.

Sunday, Rafael Montero, fresh off a fine AAA debut in a spot start, returned to AA and rolled: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. I thought Montero (pictured) could earn his spot in the Las Vegas rotation with a strong performance last week against Iowa. I was wrong. Again, the Las Vegas rotation still includes D.J. Mitchell, Chris Schwinden and Carlos Torres. What's important is where the Mets feel Montero is best served developmentally and if the answer is that his slider will benefit most from the buses of the Eastern League so be it.
Monday, the B-Mets won on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to pull into a tie for first place with Portland (although the B-Mets, with two games in hand, and one loss, are percentage points behind the 'Dogs).

Val Pascucci (2-5, HR(19), 2 RBI) hit a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th to send a crowd of 16,447 home jumping for joy.

The B-Mets scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with the following rally: C Kai Gronauer walked, Matt den Dekker bunted pinch-runner Michael Fisher to second, Fisher advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Jon Malo sac fly.
1B Allan Dykstra's grand slam highlighted a 5-run B-Mets third that put Binghamton up 6-3. ?The 24-year old is hitting .260/.386/.457 with 19 doubles and 16 homers in his first crack at AA.

Jeurys Familia (pictured)?ran into trouble in the seventh, giving up a home run, and then leaving runners at first and third for Ricky Brooks who allowed them both to score on back-to-back doubles. ?Still, his final line is nice: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 11 K. ?The 11 whiffs are one off a career high set ?August 17, 2010 with St. Lucie. ?That's great. ?Now do it again.
Jordany Valdespin was 2-5 with a double. ?He's hitting .344/.364/.688 with three homers in nine games in June, which is nice. ?He's also drawn five walks in 34 games since May 1, which is less impressive.

Not much offense, and starter Brandon Moore allowed the Senators to score a run in each of the first three innings. Moore falls to 5-4 on the season, went five innings giving up seven hits, four runs, three earned runs, walking none, and striking out three.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 0-4 with a strikeout. That ends the outfielder's 16-game hit streak as well as his 20-game on-base streak to start the season.
Lucas Duda was the hitting star, going 2-4 with his first home run of the season, an opposite field laser in the fourth inning.

Dykstra, who will be 24 in May, is coming off a .241/.372/.438 season with 24 doubles and 16 home runs with the Lake Elsinore Storm in the advanced-A California League (the same level as the Mets' St. Lucie affiliate).? Lake Elsinore is one of the fairer ballparks in the Cal League's southern division which has hitters' paradises in High Desert and Lancaster.? The large lefty hit righties (.254/.397/.463 in 287 AB) significantly better than he hit lefties (.202/.292/.364 in 99 AB) and drew 78 walks while striking out 122 times in 113 games.? However, he was old for the league.
The reaction of some of the national prospect gurus to the trade on Twitter was fairly derisive.
