Eli Manning appeared on WFAN this morning with Boomer and Carton and basically sloughed off former teammate Amani Toomer's assessment that Dallas' Tony Romo is the best QB in the NFC East...from WFAN/CBSLocal.com:

?You really just can?t get caught up (in) it,? said Manning. ?If you listen to every show or what every single person says ? and you get defensive about it or it makes you upset, you?re gonna have some problems.?

Manning said he gave Toomer ? still his good pal ? a dose of his own medicine. All in good fun, of course.

A good old-fashioned ribbing from a former teammate, however vile, tawdry or unsophisticated, hits home in a different way than your average pre-game trash-talking opponent or fan critic. It stings, and not just because you played together, but because you spent hours, days, sometimes years eating, training, even living with each other. There?s no understating the strength of the bonds formed in NFL locker rooms, the relationships that, theoretically at least, transcend football and last far longer than NFL careers.

Amani Toomer likes Dallas' Tony Romo over the Giants' Eli Manning at QB until "crunch time", where Eli excels. Is there any other way to measure a QB except how they play when the game is on the line...? (Photo:?Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News)

Disharmony rarely resonates through the land of the Giants, but when it does, it always feels unnatural. That's what happened yesterday when ex-teammates Jeremy Shockey and Amani Toomer fired salvos in each other's direction...

What happens when two ex-Giants go at it in the 21st century? They engage in a battle on Twitter, what else?

Gary Myers of the NY Daily News reported that Shockey wanted to return to the Giants. Before Shockey could refute or validate the story, Toomer had chimed in on Twitter imploring the Giants to say no to Shockey and alleging that he was a "bad teammate and bad person."

Former Giants WR Amani Toomer spoke his mind this week about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on a radio program, but quickly realized the analogy he used was is poor taste and apologized.

"I think the way Mr. Goodell has handled this ... he's kind of using his power, as kind of like a Gestapo-type situation, controlling the players, not letting the judicial system do its work. It's just way too much power for one person to have, and a lot of players take real issue with the way he's using this power."

When Toomer realized he compared Goodell's commissionership to Nazi Germany's violent and unforgiving police force, he rushed to rectify his statement in an email to Newsday:

In case you haven't done the math, the Giants have only three healthy receivers on the active roster. Who would have guessed that losing Ramses Barden would cause such a dilemma?

The loss of Hixon is now being amplified while Victor Cruz sits on IR mending a paper cut (minor hamstring injury). Darius Reynaud is technically a receiver (not necessarily a capable one) but he is still battling a hamstring injury of his own.

So now the obvious. The Giants must acquire another receiver. Since this receiver will be immediately thrust into action, expect a signing sooner rather than later so that he can practice with the team before Sunday. The pickings are slim right now.

Former Giant WR and Ring of Honor inductee Amani Toomer ran the NYC Marathon in 4:13 yesterday.

"It was a lot tougher than I thought," Toomer said as he posed for pictures and fought through the throngs of other runners. "It feels a lot like the end of a football game actually."

Our colleague over at the Star Ledger, Zach Berman, featured former Giant great Amani Toomer in his column today. Toomer is running in the NYC Marathon this Sunday.

"...As the Giants' all-time leader in receiving yards, Amani Toomer became accustomed to short sprints. His muscles were developed for bursts of speed and running in and out of cuts.

On Sunday, Toomer will need to run differently than he did during any Sunday during his 13 seasons with the Giants. He will run the New York City Marathon -- 26.2 miles compared to 40 yards..."

Amani Toomer has signed with another team. Yes, Toomer is now a Kansas City Chief after signing a one year deal today.

The Chiefs reportedly worked out D.J. Hackett and David Terrell as well, but chose Toomer? out of the three.

I'm glad to see Toomer will still be playing football. I still am not quite sure why the Giants did not want him back, seeing as they lack any real veterans. Toomer will go down as maybe the best Giant receiver of all time...good luck Amani.

Tom Rock on his blog for Newsday writes that Derrick Ward's reps will meet with the Giants next week to discuss the possibility of him returning to the Giants next year.

Ward, who along with Brandon Jacobs surpassed the 1,000 yard mark plans on being back with the Giants, even though the chances seem remote.

"It will work itself out," the running back said. "I plan on being back. I can't imagine it not working out."
Rock writes that Amani Toomer has had some discussions about returning to the Giants already, despite the fact many have figured he's already going to be leaving.

Amani Toomer is growing tired of Plaxico Burress' off the field issues, and in an AP report said he thinks if he continues he will be a distraction to the team.

?He?s his own man,? Toomer said. ?He makes his own decisions and I have to respect that. He knows his decisions affect the team. It?s hard to go up to a grown man (and talk) about doing his business the way everybody else wants him to.?

When pressed about what might happen if Burress continues his errant ways, the Giants captain wondered.
