A week from now we will be assessing the Giants' draft - what is and what could have been - while trying to stay out in front of the UDFA scramble. The favorite for the Giants remains Iowa OL Brandon Scherff, regarded by most experts as the best lineman in the draft and perhaps the safest bet at any position this year.

Some have contended that Scherff does not possess the wingspan to be an effective tackle in the NFL. The Giants don't really care about that, having drafted Justin Pugh in the first round two years ago. Pugh was said to have "short arms" as well. They appear to be comfortable with just adding Scherff to their roster and upgrading the offensive line.

Alabama WR Amari Cooper?and Stanford OT Andrus Peat will visit the Jets on Thursday afternoon?(Martin, March 30).

With the Jets trading for Brandon Marshall this offseason, awarding?Jeremy Kerley?a four-year contract extension and Eric Decker?locked in?with a long-term deal the WR position appears to be set. It remains unknown if the Jets would use the sixth overall pick to draft a position that is now considered a strength.

Peat would be an early consideration for the Jets at the sixth pick, but would be available were the Jets?to slide back in the first round. ?Many mocks have Peat going in the early twenties range. ?Left tackle,?D'Brickashaw Ferguson, is 32 and right tackle,?Breno Giacomini, will be 30 at the beginning of the season. Given their age and soon to be ending contracts the Jets will have to start thinking about the tackle position sooner rather than later.

It's way too early to speculate on who the Giants will select in this spring's NFL Draft. Or is it? I visited WalterFootball.com, one of my favorite websites, and checked to see who they have the Giants selecting in the first three rounds of their mock draft.

Round One, Pick 9: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford (6'7', 312) Jr.
