Bent, theJetsBlog.com Follow on Twitter: Reports indicate that the Seattle Seahawks will sign former Detroit Lions DE Ziggy Ansah to a one-year deal later today. Many experts anticipated the Jets would show interest in signing the former top-five pick, but that never materialized. With the Jets' lack of depth at the edge rusher positions, that's perhaps surprising.

Could they be missing a trick here?

When healthy, Ansah has usually been a productive pass rusher. Just two seasons ago, he racked up 12 sacks, having had a career-high 14.5 sacks in 2015. The Jets' sack leaders last year - Henry Anderson and Jordan Jenkins - had seven sacks each, so a pass rusher with the capability to generate that kind of production could make a huge difference.

Following the NFL draft, the Jets 90-man roster is starting to take shape. While GM Mike Maccagnan suggested he'll keep looking for opportunities to improve the roster, some of the main position battles ahead are starting to come into focus. In some cases, that's as a result of players they drafted, but some of them were made all the more interesting due to those areas that went unaddressed.

One of the prospects most commonly linked to the Jets in this draft cycle has been Kentucky edge defender Josh Allen. This makes a lot of sense, as Allen is considered one of the best pass rushers in the draft and that's arguably the Jets' biggest need.

With Jordan Jenkins and Brandon Copeland currently projected as the starters on the edge, any rookie has a great opportunity to come in and play a big role and would be expected to win a starting job. The Jets have done their homework on Allen, whom they met with at the combine and then brought in for an official visit earlier this month.

Safety Jamal Adams was one of the key Jets players who recruited running back Le'Veon Bell to New York.

Turns out, he also had a role in bringing linebacker C.J. Mosley to the Meadowlands as well.

"Obviously he's a tremendous player, I was excited to get him," Adams said, according to newyorkjets.com. "I kind of recruited him at the Pro Bowl. I didn't think they'd get rid of him, no one did. He came to us and I can't tell you how excited I am."

With the draft less than a month away, the Jets have yet to adequately address every need. It's widely considered that their biggest needs are at edge rusher, cornerback, and center. In each case, the Jets re-signed a free agent from last year's team, but would surely hope to be able to find a better long-term option than Brandon Copeland, Darryl Roberts and Jonotthan Harrison.

Let's identify some potential candidates they could target to fill these needs with their first three picks in next month's NFL Draft...

The Jets are bringing back a promising piece of their defense from last season.

The team announced on Monday that they have re-signed linebacker Brandon Copeland

Copeland, 27, had a career-year with the Jets last season, recording five sacks and 14 quarterback hits in addition to 35 tackles in 16 games.

Over the past month, we've been reviewing some of the top draft prospects at each position to assess some potential candidates that the Jets will show interest in. We conclude today with a look at the 2019 edge defender class.

Jets Needs: Edge Defenders

The Jets have lacked a consistently productive edge rusher for many years but 2019 looks like being the year where they finally address that. They've been linked with several players in free agency and could also select a blue-chip prospect in the draft.

The new league year is almost upon us, and the Jets are gearing up for what is expected to be a very busy free agency period for the organization. There are numerous holes to fix on the roster, and that includes finding more pass rushers on the defensive side of the ball.

The Jets were in the middle of the pack last season with 39 team sacks, which was a three-way tie at 16th in the league. Henry Anderson (who they could bring back in free agency) and Jordan Jenkins led the team with seven sacks, while Brandon Copeland and Leonard Williams collected five apiece.

But being mediocre in pass rushing isn't something new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is about, so changes are sure to come to compliment his aggressive play-calling. Though many believed Williams coming aboard meant the Jets converting from a 3-4 base to a 4-3. However, head coach Adam Gase said the Jets will be sticking with the 3-4, which Williams has experience in as well...

Aaron Rodgers ranks outside the top five in passing yards. His 23 passing touchdowns and 97.2 passer rating have him outside the top 10.

And yet, the Jets defense knows what the legendary Packers quarterback is capable of.

"Man, I guarantee that No. 12, 'A-Rod,' whatever you want to call him, he will be there,'' Jets safety Jamal Adams said, according to the New York Post's Mark Cannizzaro, ahead of Sunday's matchup against Green Bay. "He will be at MetLife. He's coming to play. Man, that guy, he can sit back in the pocket with no legs and have one shoulder and throw the ball. He's amazing.''

New York Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland interviews some of his teammates about their Alma maters.

Jets LB Brandon Copeland took the microphone from SNY's Jeane Coakley to make his rounds in the locker room for "Cope's Chronicles," his new segment on Jets Game Plan.

Copeland naturally assumed the role of interviewer, asking his teammates about their alma maters and how much they regret not going to his own, the University of Pennsylvania.

"How mad are you on a scale of 1 to 10 that you did not go to the University of Pennsylvania," he asked WR Andre Roberts.

Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland is going back to school, just not as a student.

The 27-year-old plans to teach a financial literacy course at his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, during the spring semester, according to the New York Post.

The class Copeland will teach is called "Inequity and Empowerment: Urban Financial Literacy" and he will teach it alongside Brian Peterson, who has a doctorate in education.

The Raiders have cut DE Bruce Irvin, reports Vic Tafur of The Athletic, giving the Jets a potential option to bolster their defensive line. Because Irvin wasn't on the NFL wire today, ESPN's Adam Schefter points out he won't be made available until 4 p.m. on Monday.

The Jets have made previous efforts to improve their defensive line this season. Most notably, the team tried acquiring Khalil Mack before he was ultimately shipped to the Chicago Bears.

Irvin enjoyed a career year last season, totaling 58 tackles and eight sacks as a linebacker. But the 31-year-old, who was moved to defensive end this season, has taken a step back statistically and in terms of playing time, as he has registered just six tackles to go along with three sacks.

Vikings pull away from Jets 00:01:25
Todd Bowles, Sam Darnold, Jermaine Kearse and Jamal Adams comment on the Jets' mistake-riddled, 37-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Jets could have made a huge statement by beating the Minnesota Vikings, a true NFC contender, in what would've been their biggest victory of the season. And the Jets' defense did all it could to make it happen.

But in the end, the Jets learned what should have been obvious:

Sam Darnold isn't ready to be a contender just yet...
