Cam Talbot was a guest on ESPN Radio at 4:30PM today:

    • He says that the team in front of him is playing well but he isn't sure anyone saw the team gaining ground and playing this well without Henrik Lundqvist. "we have been playing great as a team, came together and won some games when I wasn't playing my best."
    • He said that he is starting to feel more comfortable in his role but that it's still a big team effort lately.
    • He has had this kind of workload in the past and been a starter before at different levels so he needed to get back to that mindset. "it's just getting ready to play every game and recovery for your body and preparation but as far as mentally, you just try and prepare the same every game."
    • He says that he isn't tired and enjoying his spot while he has it. He says that he knows Hank will want the net every night when he comes back and he is just making the best of it right now.
    • "I feel great, my body feels great, I feel good mentally."
    • On how he works at being a backup to Henrik, "a lot of work with Benoit Allaire before practice, staying out late and getting as much work in as possible. Some of the guys want to stay out for extra drills and doing extra bike rides to get your legs ready to go. Our strength coach and Benny have been working on this to keep me ready for a chance like this."
    • He learned to handle the puck in juniors, there was no trapezoid and he could "rip it up the ice." He works with Benoit Allaire on playing the puck before practice.
    • On the last game at the Coliseum, "you could just feel it in the arena that it was going to be a crazy game. I gave it right to Tavares 11 seconds in. You could tell that neither team was going to give an inch. Two high powered offenses, not too much of a goalie duel but we came out on top."
    • He has to have a short-term memory and not allow goals to stick with him. The guys told him during the last Isles game that they would get it back for him with 59 minutes to go.
    • On Henrik, "it's his team so when he is ready to come back he will be welcomed. I will take a step back and I am enjoying the level of playing time that I am getting and when he comes back he will want the net for most of the stretch."
    • Can you be a full-time starter, "you wonder that in the back of your mind and right now I am just getting a taste. I have done well so far with him out and handling a starting goalies workload, it's obviously a goal of mine to be a starter and this is a nice little taste to hopefully take the next step down the line."
    • On how he has improved during this stretch, "my confidence has been building game after game. I didn't start off on the right foot but we got some big goals and once I got comfortable in the role and playing night after night, my confidence keeps going. When you have it it seems like the puck is bigger and you can find it through traffic. I can't say enough about the guys in front of me."
    • On his relationship with Skapski, "I don't know if I am a mentor, I am helping him adjust, he is a great kid and a good goalie. He settled down after letting in that first one and a big moment for him and he is a good kid and asks a lot of questions and I try and answer them the best that I can."

From the NHL, "Talbot posted a 2-0-1 record with a 0.99 goals-against average, .965 save percentage and one shutout to backstop the Rangers (40-17-7, 87 points) to five out of a possible six standings points. He denied 25 shots in a 4-1 triumph over the Nashville Predators March 2. Talbot then made 29 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings March 4. He capped the week by stopping all 29 shots he faced in a 1-0 overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks March 8, becoming the first Rangers goaltender to post a shutout in Chicago since Dec. 25, 1966 (Ed Giacomin). The 27-year-old Caledonia, Ont., native has appeared in 26 games this season, going 14-6-4 with a 2.33 goals-against average, .921 save percentage and five shutouts. That includes points in 12 of his last 13 decisions (9-1-3) as well as a 5-1-1 mark in his last seven appearances (1.69 GAA, .943 SV%, 2 SO)."
