Although it is unlikely he will still be on the board with the No. 6 overall pick, Jameis Winston will make a pre-draft visit to Jets headquarters (Mehta, April 11).

General manager Mike Maccagnan, head coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey were in attendance for Winston's pro-day held at Florida State University on March 31. The trio were so impressed by Winston's performance that they canceled their scheduled private?workout date a week later.

The Jets have informed Winston that his visit to Florham Park will include some classroom and film work to test his football acumen.

Free agent running back C.J. Spiller expressed his admiration for new Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey on Sirius XM NFL radio Tuesday, recounting his success when Gailey was Spiller's coach in Buffalo (Cimini, Feb. 24).

The Jets are expected to pursue Spiller, 27, when free agency begins next month.

"His offense is going to be very creative," Spiller said of Gailey. "He's going put his players in the best situations to win matchups. Just a humble guy. First class. Goes about his business the right way. He's going to treat his men like men."

Chan Gailey will be the Jets offensive coordinator under new coach Todd Bowles, the team announced Tuesday night (Jets, Jan. 20).

Gailey, 63, was an NFL head coach with the Cowboys and Bills. He will be the Jets' fourth offensive coordinator in five years.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gailey spoke with three other teams about a job on their staff, and was only interested in "the right team in the right situation."

Up in Buffalo, the big question yesterday was around Stevie Johnson's inability to go in the Thursday practice due to a fall the Bills receiver had in practice on Wednesday. ?Johnson's momentum on running a fade route carried him off the field and onto a rubber track that rings the team's grass practice field. ?The change in surface caused the fall and while he tried to play after the incident, Johnson experienced some soreness from the fall yesterday that kept him out.

?He got tight yesterday,? Bills Coach Chan Gailey explained to reporters yesterday. ?He could?ve gone out there today, but we kept him out. We think he?ll be back out [on Friday] and be back Saturday and be ready to go Sunday.?
