Victor Cruz will sign his first-round free agent tender today, he told Josina Anderson of ESPN.

"I'm going to sign my tender today and will continue talks for a long-term deal before camp starts," Cruz said.

The first-round tender contract is worth $2.879 million.

The RFA signing window closed last night at midnight, meaning restricted free agents can now only negotiate with their former teams.

The Giants have two such players in this category: RB Andre Brown and WR Victor Cruz. Brown was assigned a second-round tender (one year, $2.023 million) but has not signed a contract, most likely because he recently changed his agent (to Drew Rosenhaus). He has been working out at TPC, however, signing a waiver in order to participate.

Cruz was the only RFA in the NFL this year assigned a first round tender (one year, $2.879 million). He has not signed his tender nor has he attended any workouts this week.

Assume for a second that the Giants work out a long-term extension for star wideout Victor Cruz.

And also assume that Hakeem Nicks can stay healthy for an entire season ? a big assumption certainly.

But if the above scenarios occur coupled with new roles and additions, the Giants could have one of the top receiving corps in the NFL next season.

It?s Week 17, and the Giants need a win and some help in order to reach the postseason. Yet, star wide receiver Victor Cruz says he and the team are very calm.

?We understand exactly what we need to do,? he said. ?I think the pressure is off of us a little bit. We?ve just got to go out there and play football.?

Regardless of the other results, the Giants obviously need to defeat the Eagles in order to have any chance at a playoff berth. Even so, ending the year on a high note seems to be a popular theme among the players as well.
