The DC search continues for the Giants this week. Many feel the familiarity of Steve Spagnuolo puts him in the lead for the job.

Newsflash: the familiarity they're talking about is long gone. Other than secondary coach Dave Merritt, there is no one left from his 2008 defensive coaching staff, the last season Spagnoulo was here. It was so long ago, none of the players from that team are still here, either.

Sure, Tom Coughlin likes familiarity, but that has worked against him as much as it's worked for him.?There is a wide field of candidates to choose from right now. Don't get me wrong, I like Spags, but his recent track record is too spotty for me.

"I would have to calm down my emotions, but I would love that opportunity," Johnson said regarding a potential return to the Giants.

There is no question to the Giants coaches, training staff, and fans, that Jon Beason has been one of the shining spots of this defense in a season that seemed doomed from the start.

Acquired from the Carolina Panthers in the middle of the season, many believed that Beason would be a non-factor in the defensive scheme, but the 28-year-old has proved to be more than just a small piece to a larger puzzle.

It took seven games, but the Giants have finally found their first win of the season last night against the Minnesota Vikings. While the offense did not play exceptionally well, it was the play of Big Blue's defense that secured a much needed victory that has fans everywhere, breathing a sigh of relief.

Yes, they did just beat the lowly Minnesota Vikings, who started QB Josh Freeman for the first time since acquiring him from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; but defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and the Giants defense, has to be commended for their victory.

Reigning NFL MVP Adrian Peterson was held to just 28 yards on 13 carries and was bottled up on each carry. With the score close for much of the game, the Giants packed the box in an effort to make sure that AP did not break out for a game-changing run, something that he has commonly done over his stellar seven year career in the NFL.

It's a short week for the Giants as they hope to stop their season from freefalling completely out of control tomorrow night when they take on the Chicago Bears in hopes of finding their first win in what seems to be the longest NFL season of all time.

The Bears have lost two straight games after starting the season 3-0,?but have a formidable offense with QB Jay Cutler, who is having a steady year,?along with weapons such as RB Matt Fore, WR Brandon Marshall, and former Giants TE Martellus Bennett.

New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has been studying the offense of the Eagles for a while now. Kelly, the former Oregon Ducks?head coach, has incorporated his college-style offense, which relies heavily on the read-option and a fast-paced attack, into the Eagles playbook, but so far he has not had much success; and the Giants hope they can keep the trend going.

Four offensive turnovers were the storyline of the Giants? loss this past Sunday to the Bengals. However, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell was not pleased with how his unit played as a whole.

On the very first series, Andy Dalton connected with A.J. Green on a 56-yard touchdown in which the Giants? secondary looked completely lost.

Fewell said there were actually two blunders on that play.
