Has the Brook Lopez injury put Paul Pierce on the trading block?

Bleacher Report's Howard Beck writes that the Nets could look to trade Pierce for future considerations if they truly believe they can't compete without their star center, and speculates a reunion with his former coach could be in the cards:

[sny-box]Nets officials must now confront the same calculus: If the title chase is lost, is there any reason to keep Pierce? Is there any reason not to trade him by the Feb. 20 deadline??Even at 36, Pierce could be valuable as a short-term rental for a contending team. A reunion with Doc Rivers in Los Angeles seems more than plausible, if the Nets and?Clippers?can work out the details.[/sny-box]

At least one person thinks Paul Pierce needs to receive more minutes to find his groove: Pierce's former head coach and current Clippers head man Doc Rivers.

Rivers told Bleacher Report's Howard Beck that Pierce isn't done, and he thinks he'd actually benefit from?more?minutes in the Nets' rotations:

[sny-box]"[Paul] can score anywhere. I think he was more uncomfortable with the short minutes that they were [playing him], like they did with Kevin. And that?s not Paul. Paul?doesn?t work under those type of minutes?at least, in my opinion he doesn?t. He?s a guy that needs a rhythm to play. In Kevin?s case, on a 20-minute restriction, of course his numbers are going to be down. So I think at some point, he probably is going to have to play more minutes to improve, so he can get a better rhythm himself."[/sny-box]

"I'm leaning heavily towards coming back," Rivers said Wednesday after the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs by the Miami Heat. "I haven't made that decision. But I can tell you that I probably will. I've kind of come to that over the last couple of weeks. I'm a Celtic and I love our guys.

"I want to win again here. I do. And I'm competitive as hell. I have a competitive group, and so we'll see. But I can tell you that's where I'm at today. Tomorrow, I may change my mind, but that's where I'm at today."

I guess we'll just wait until tomorrow then...unless?
