So far this season the Devils have blown 13 3rd period leads. Of those 13 games, 6 have been decided in a shootout, 5 in overtime and 2 in regulation. The Devils are 4-2 in shootouts and 4-1 in overtime. So when it comes to crunch time for the Devils they some how know how to steal that extra point.
Fact of the Day
Steve Bernier scored the only goal for the Devils today in a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. It was his first NHL goal with the New Jersey Devils. Also it was his first NHL goal since?February?10th, 2011 as a member of the Florida Panthers. Isn't that a little ironic scoring your first NHL goal with another club against your former team almost a year to the date.
The Devils were able to score 6 goals today against the Philadelphia Flyers. It is no secret that Devils don't score a whole lot often. The last time the Devils scored 6 goals in a game was on December 16th against the Dallas Stars on Scott Niedermayer night. Another fun fact the Devils went 3 for 7 on the power play.
The Devils have given up their first shorthanded goal in 11 games last night. That still gives them the league worst with 13 shorthanded goals against. That has got to be better addressed in the second half of the season as the schedule gets tougher as we get closer to the playoffs.

Friday the San Jose Sharks come to town to take on the Devils. This also is the return of former Devils Goaltender Corey Schwab. If you do not remember Schwab was on the 2003 Stanley Cup roster when the Devils won the cup. He is now the goaltending coach for the Sharks. It will be nice seeing Schwab back in New Jersey.
