Some players are being moved up while others are being shoved down but one thing has remained constant: The Bucs will select FSU QB Jameis Winston first overall. Another is that USC DL Leonard Williams will be a top five pick.
Other than those two, it's a "you-say-tomayto-I-say-tomahto" world. Some mockers have Oregon QB Marcus Mariota going as high as No.2. Others see him dropping down as afar as No.9.
For the Giants, at No.9, the picks are all over the board. NFL.com's Bucky Brooks and CBSSports' Will Brinson both have the Giants selecting DL Danny Shelton of Washington in the first round. We bandied this one about in a pre-combine post (BBB, Feb 18) but things have changed since then.
After solid performances at the combine and his pro day, Shelton cemented his status as a first round talent but perhaps not a top-10 talent. NFL scouts still love him, but it appears their will be better options for the Giants at No.9.
Some other mockers have the Giants selecting a variety of players. Pete Schrager of FOX Sports and the gang at Walter Football believe that WR Amari Cooper of Alabama could fall into the Giants' lap. Hey, it's possible. With Victor Cruz's future still uncertain, the Giants may have no choice but to grab him and run.
After walking away with the prize of the 2014 NFL Draft in WR Odell Beckham Jr., they can now get an almost duplicate steal in Cooper and begin carving Eli Manning's bust for Canton. With OBJ and Cooper lining up, along with Rueben Randle and possibly Cruz, Eli will have an embarrassment of riches on offense this season.
Moving on, the consensus is still that the Giants are in dire need of offensive and defensive line help. The top analysts at NFL.com have the Giants looking at some other options:
Lance Zierlein - OT Andrus Peat, Stanford
Charles Davis - DT Malcom Brown, Texas
Daniel Jeremiah - OL Brandon Scherff, Iowa
Then there is the possibility of trading the pick. Giants GM Jerry Reese is not much of a gambler, not is he a clairvoyant. It's likely the Giants will stay put and take one of the players mentioned above. No matter how you slice it, they are going to walk away with a top player on April 30.
