In this area, minds race when things like this happen. People stay calm, but worst case scenarios bolt to the forefront of everyone's minds.
The stadium was blanketed in complete darkness, leaving the LED screens of cellphones and Blackberrys as the only light source.
In the press box, laptop screens powered by batteries, lit the room and kept the media from completely losing it. PA announcements urged everyone to please stay in their seats and most obliged.
The stadium personnel began scrambling first for solutions, then for answers. We got the solution...the power was restored. The answers didn't really come.
The cause of the outages are still being determined. The building management released this statement in the fourth quarter last night....
"The New Meadowlands Stadium experienced two power outages in the 3rd quarter of tonight's game. Power was lost when one of the two feeders to the stadium experienced a power interruption. The power source to the stadium was then switched to the second feeder.
The appearance of the stadium not being at full power at that time occurred because the halogen lighting had not fully powered up. A second power interruption occurred to the second feeder causing a full outage. Functionality to the original feeder was restored and we are now receiving power through that feeder.
We are currently investigating the original cause of the interruption."
The power was out only a few minutes. When the lights came back on, the game resumed, but was stopped after one play to wait for the FOX broadcast feed to reboot.
Many Giant fans wished they called the game right there...
