When the Giants placed ILB Ryan Connelly on the IR after suffering a torn ACL, they didn't bring in someone to fill his spot on the 53-man roster. Instead, they brought in another pass rusher in DE Chris Peace, who the Chargers placed on waivers.
So, instead of bringing in a fresh face, the Giants are promoting their second practice squad player in the matter of two weeks.
Josiah Tauaefa has been signed to the active roster off of the team's practice squad. Jon Hilliman was also brought up last week to fill in for Saquon Barkley.
The Texas-San Antonio product spent the preseason with the Giants, and he made the best of opportunity -- enough so that they brought him back to their practice squad after initially getting cut. Tauaefa totaled 17 combined tackles and one sack during the preseason, while also showing that he can cover in the pass game.
With Alec Ogletree and Tae Davis still working their way back from injury as well, Tauaefa provides some more depth at the position. Only David Mayo is healthy at the moment for Big Blue.
Another roster move that was a given for the Giants this week was activating WR Golden Tate from his suspension. The veteran wideout has missed the first four weeks due to violating the NFL's PED policy.
The corresponding roster moves to add these two were releasing wide receivers Bennie Fowler and TJ Jones.
