169-for-263 (64.3%) for 2199 yards with 23 TDs (two rushing) and 10 INTs
Romo torched the Giants again in Week 14, completing 21 of his 31 passes for 321 yards including four TDs and no interceptions on the evening. The Giants sacked him three times, but he was undeterred by the Giants' efforts to stop him.
The Giants still won the game, but the lapses on defense almost proved costly. This time around, the Giants' secondary appears to have tightened up its game, something that has not gone unnoticed by Romo.
"When you watch the tape, they are playing really good football," Romo said Wednesday. "We caught a break one time when they had a miscommunication and sometimes you have to make some of those plays so that could be part of it because they are relying on their instincts a little bit. They are a good group so you have to be ready for them to come out and play their best game. I expect for them to come out and play tight man coverage and come after us. That is what our game plan is, to be ready for that. I think that is what we are trying to do."
The Giants' secondary has bounced back from their breakdown in Dallas with two solid efforts against Washington and the Jets. Safety Kenny Phillips recorded an interception in both games. He is excited to have his unit to get the chance to redeem themselves.
“Basically we hurt ourselves, especially on defense,” Phillips said, referring to the Week 14 game in Dallas. “There was a little bit of miscommunication, but we’ve responded.”
CB Aaron Ross said the team has been collaborating to address the disconnects on the back end of the defense.
"It was really embarrassing when you come back and watch film and watch the TV copy and see the mental busts on the back end. So we got together as a unit and told each other we can’t have that happen again."
Safety Antrel Rolle feels the secondary is much better than it was a month ago when they faced the Cowboys in Dallas:
"Key word is a month ago. That doesn’t mean anything about what’s going to take place on Sunday. We’re a better team. We’re a more confident team. And we’re a more focused team....I think we understand that everything is on the line. We work extremely hard. We’ve been working extremely hard in practice. Guys have been communicating a whole lot better. There haven’t been any coverage busts. Guys have been flying around, which is the most exciting part about practice. We’re flying around. We’re making practice electrifying. We’ll see if we can put our stamp on it come Sunday."
