Yesterday's question: K Jay Feely holds the Giants’ franchise record for most points scored in a single season (148 in 2005). Of the top 14 point-scorers in Giant history, there is only one non-kicker. Who is it, when did he do it and how points did he score that year?
The answer is.....Joe Morris, who scored a 21 touchdowns in 1985 for a total of 126 points. His efforts gained him a Pro Bowl berth and ranks fourth in team history behind Feely (148, 2005), K John Carney (143, 2008) and K Ali Haji-Sheikh (127, 1983). K Lawrence Tynes is tied with Morris for fourth, booting 126 points in 2009.
Morris' 126 points are the most points by a Giant non-kicker by a mile. Only one other player has more than 100 points in a season. HB/FB Gene "Choo-Choo" Roberts scored 17 TDs (102 points) in 1949.
Today's question.....Allie Sherman took over the reins as head coach in 1961 and went 33-8 in his first three regular seasons (0-3 in playoff games). From 1964-68 his team stumbled, going 24-33 which led to his unceremonious dismissal. He at least had some success as the head coach....there were a few who had little - or no - success.
