The Giants were in better spirits today, knowing they aren't the only team in their division going through some rough times. A win vs Washington this coming Thursday will bring their record up to 1-2, tying them with the Redskins and pulling in front of the 0-2 Eagles. The 2-0 Cowboys are facing a trying season with QB Tony Romo (clavicle) and WR Dez Bryant (foot) each expected to miss more than two months.
QB Eli Manning, whose mistakes were a huge part of of his team's back-to-back implosions is not panicking. Even though he's playing like a rookie in spots, he knows it's his job to lead and be patient.
“We have a young team right now," Eli said on a conference call with reporters Monday. "We’ve just got to make sure guys stay strong. I think we have a good group, and guys are going to keep fighting and keep working to get better. And I think that’s the goal."
"Hopefully, we can come out today, it’s a different week, so we’ve got to prepare and stay focused and do everything we’ve got to do without much practice time. It’s going to be a challenge, but it’s something we’ve got to be able to accomplish. Make sure everybody is on the same page so we go out there Thursday night and make sure we’re doing everything right to give us the best chance to win.”
A win will go a long way to solving the Giants' problems. It usually does. Head coach Tom Coughlin said on his conference call that the team is going to get their "finishing" issue under control.
"We’ll continue to talk about that, we’ll continue to be positive, and we’ll continue to utilize our meeting time with positive reinforcements whether it be examples of whatever," he said. "Sooner or later, we just have to settle down and play the way we’re capable of playing when the game is on the line. I don’t know how to say it any more simpler. The information comes forth from the sideline, you have x amount of time to digest it all, but then you have to go pull the trigger."
In injury news, WR/KR Dwayne Harris is experiencing a sore toe. Coughlin had no update on him or CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (concussion) and LT Ereck Flowers (ankle)
He did have an update on WR Victor Cruz, however...
"He’s been running, as I told you, on the treadmill in the water. He’s been doing that and he’s been doing some running out on the grass."
And what about MLB Jon Beason...
"Well, he’ll continue even though there really isn’t a lot of practice time, it’s a lot of mental work here. I’m sure they’ll continue to work Jon on the side or whatever and just see where he’s at. Hopefully he’ll continue to improve and then we’ll maybe get some kind of a word going forward here."
