Schefter reports free agent S Stevie Brown is considering "5-6 offers" and should make his decision "soon." Schefter lists the Giants, Cowboys, Falcons, Raiders and Titans as interested teams, but there could be a surprise organization lurking. Brown struggled last season after missing 2013 with an ACL tear, but he was solid in 11 starts with the Giants in 2012. The Giants are desperate for safety help after striking out in free agency.
If the Giants sign Brown, they will be compelled to put him on on the final roster. There is no way they can just take a flier on him, even if he is their free agent. There will be a cap hit regardless if they sign Brown and then cut him.
It makes this call a tough one for the Giants, who will likely walk away from Draft Week with at least 3-4 players who can play safety and will vie for roster spots. Add in Nat Berhe, Cooper Taylor and the recently signed Josh Gordy, and the Giants may have their safety conundrum solved by the end of training camp.
I think the price will be more than the Giants are willing to pay for Brown, and they don't usually engage in bidding wars. Not over a player they seem to be lukewarm on bringing back, anyway. If the safety-deficient Giants aren't hot for Brown, then there's probably something afoot with his health that is keeping them away for the moment.
