The Series: The Giants and Cincinnati Bengals meet for the fourth time in the preseason, with the Giants winning the previous three games. Head coach Tom Coughlin is 1-2 in regular season games vs. the Bengals. In the regular season, the Giants and Bengals have met nine times, with the Giants leading the series, 6-3.
The Giants will attempt to continue their preseason success. They went 5-0 last summer, before logging in a disappointing 6-10 campaign in the regular season.
The Giants finished the 2014 preseason with a 5-0 record. They opened with a 17-13 win vs.
Buffalo at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The following week the Giants defeated the Steelers, 20-16, at home and Big Blue’s next two road wins included a comeback victory at Indianapolis (27-26) and a 35-24 win against the Jets. The Giants closed out the preseason by defeating the Patriots, 16-13, at MetLife Stadium.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has a 25-21 preseason record during his tenure with the Giants, which began in 2004. As head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995-2002, he had a preseason record of 19-14.
The Giants have failed to qualify for the postseason the past three years. The Bengals, on the other hand, have been in the playoffs five of the past six seasons, but were eliminated immediately in those years. They have not won a playoff game since 1990.
For the Giants, it will be the first preseason game in Blue for several players, most notably last year's top pick WR Odell Beckham, Jr., RB Shane Vereen and this year's heralded rookie class that includes OT Ereck Flowers, safety Landon Collins and DE Owa Odighizuwa.
GEICO SportsNite has sound from the Giants as the players discuss the preseason opener against the Bengals on Friday night.
