Tuesday may have been an off day for the Giants, but it may have the biggest news day in recent years.
The day was clouded by the news that former safety Tyler Sash, who was currently out of football, was found dead in Iowa home (Sept. 8). The cause of death is still being investigated, but no foul play is suspected. He was 27.
DE Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to be out of action for up to another month after leaving New Jersey without a contract (Sept. 8). The Giants are apparently unwilling to pay JPP the full amount of his franchise tender ($14.8 million) due to his inability to play at full strength. The Giants' medical team has deemed his right hand is unfit to play pro football at this time.
WR Victor Cruz (calf) is still uncertain for the team's opener this Sunday night in Dallas. He said he expects to play by the second or third game of the season (Sept. 8).
Citing he doesn't want his contract situation hanging in the balance during the regular season, QB Eli Manning said he wants a deal done by the start of the season (Sept. 8).
Roster roulette continued on Tuesday with recently-claimed NT Louis Nix and CB Asa Jackson were both released (Sept. 8). Nix failed his Giants physical and Jackson was dropped to make room for veteran LB Jasper Brinkley, who was released by Dallas this past weekend (Sept. 8).
