The rumblings about WR Hakeem Nicks being traded to the Detroit Lions for RB Mikel Leshoure and a draft pick were rippling throughout social media last night. Rest easy, they're just rumors. Nicks is going nowhere - for now.

It appears the rumors started with a Lions fan wishes on Twitter. It was quickly quelled by Lions' beat writer Dave Birkett.

It is widely believed the 1986 Giants originated the tradition of dousing the head coach with Gatorade on the sidelines after a victory. As it turns out, although they perfected the ritual, they were not the first team to do it....

But where did the tradition start? In his excellent book, First in Thirst: How Gatorade Turned the Science of Sweat Into a Cultural Phenomenon, Darren Rovell wrote about how the Giants first began doing the celebration in a section titled ?The Inaugural Dunk.? Amazingly enough, it began as somewhat of an act of aggression!

This was sent to me by Tom Murro of celebritymagnet.com and News12. It is about the integrity and kindness of former Giant great Harry Carson. ?

The story begins on January 8th when Carson, at the request of Murro, attended a fundraiser for the Emmanuel Cancer Fund for children's Hollywood Bash in Ridgewood, NJ. ?The Giants great donated several items for auction: a signed Hall-of-Fame mini-helmet and an autographed football which would collectively garner the charity $450 that evening.

The event was a hit and Carson was the star. Murro was an organizer of the event as well as Kim Granatell of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. ?After the auction, the two realized the items Carson donated for charity were missing, the charity was in a pickle.....

Retired Numbers, Stagnant RFAs Leave Giants' Players With Limited Options

The Giants have a long, illustrious history similar to that of their former co-tenants, the Yankees.

Both teams have retired the numbers of many of their legendary ex-players.? In baseball, that is not really a problem.? In football, where you may have as many as 80 players active (the Giants have 87 right now), the numbers begin to run out.

The Giants are close to having that happen.? With 80 players under contract and eleven numbers retired, only nine numbers between 1-99 are not being used.
