Need to Know: Dwight King kicked off the scoring for the Kings in the first period. He deflected a shot past Chad Johnson to give Los Angeles the early 1-0 lead. Brock Nelson tied the game later in the period with the Islanders on the power play. Nelson was able to sneak a tough angle shot past Jonathan Quick at 16:32.
The game remained tied for the next two periods and through overtime forcing the game to a shootout. Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen both scored in the shootout for the Islanders, while Chad Johnson stopped Kings' shooters Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter.
Johnson made 28 saves on 29 shots and finished the game with a .966 save percentage. The Islanders power play struggled scoring just once on five opportunities. The penalty kill, on the other hand, was a perfect 4-for-4 on the night.
