Stevan Ridley Won't Gain 50 Yards -- Listen to the national media and many are gushing about the sudden emergence of the Patriots running game. Ridley just ran for 96 yards againt the Saints. The Saints are the league's worst run defense in the league. In Ridley's last game, Ridley ran well against the Falcons (21st) and posted a 4.8 YPC average. - the same as the Saints game Sorry, but none of that is happening for Ridley against the Jets defensive line - even if they gave Ridley base personnel and never stuffed the box once all game.
Bilal Powell Will Have His Second Ever 100+ Yard Rush Game -- The Patriots were not playing great run-stopping football to begin with, but with Wilfork and Jerod Mayo both out in this game the Jets would be wise to take advantage of such an opportunity to stuff the ball up the middle of their defense. Combine that with Geno's inconsistency in the passing game and this would lead one to believe that the Jets should run the ball and be able to do so quite effectively to take pressure off Geno and afford him better looks when he does in fact pass the ball.
The Jets Will Get Five or Six Sacks -- The Patriots are averaging three or less sacks a game, but I think that the Jets can buck the trend. Sebastian Vollmer and Nate Solder are excellent tackles but the interior of the Patriots line is suspect, especially now as the Patriots look to be without Dan Connolly, who was having a disastrous season anyway. The center / right guard gap will be particularly promising for the Jets defense. Look for the Jets to put Wilkerson, Richardson and Coples on the inside to get some mouth watering opportunities to take a straight line to Tom Brady.
Stephen Hill Will Flash Playmaking Abilities, Making Room for Steady game from Jeremy Kerley -- Stephen Hill has been quiet for a few weeks, but this is a game where I really like the idea of matching him up against Alfonzo Dennard. Dennard is a solid pressure-zone corner, but he doesn't have the straight line speed and hips to keep up with a receiver deep in space. Aqib Talib's availability will be key to this, but I think that the Jets will use the play-action to keep the Patriots defense honest. Air it out to Hill a few times which will then draw safety help to Hill's side, setting up more stick-moving opportunities for Jeremy Kerley. Hill might have three catches for close to 100 yards while Kerley has six to eight catches for 80ish yards.
