Cromartie reportedly suffered a hyperextended knee and a knee sprain. He did not suffer a ACL or MCL tear, as was previously feared.
The Jets say that Cromartie is listed as week-to-week, and he has not been ruled out for their Week 2 matchup on Monday night against the Colts.
The Jets secondary is deep, but it is obviously better off with a veteran like Antonio Cromartie available as a potential starter. I am glad that the injury was not serious as originally thought and that he might be back on the field some time soon. Cromartie might still miss some time as he recovers from what looked like a very painful injury Sunday against the Browns, but to have him available in the coming weeks against some solid receiving corps is good news for a Jets defense looking to gel with a revamped secondary and a new coaching scheme since last year.
