Martin, 22, was an undrafted free agent from LSU whom the Seahawks cut Saturday.
To make room for Martin, the Jets cut the 26-year-old Miles, who recorded 23 tackles, broke up one pass and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the preseason.
It's rough to watch this happen again and again for Miles. I'm not sure what else he could have done to secure himself a roster spot but this was a move I expected and dreaded. Every player who gets cut is tough to see, but Miles hard work and dedication have gotten him this far and I hope he's able to latch on somewhere soon, if it's not going to be the Jets.
Martin is listed as a 220-pounder, although he apparently weighed in at only 200 pounds at his pro day, where he posted good - not great - numbers. Martin played mostly as a free safety in preseason with the Seahawks, but also saw some action in the box and matching up in the slot. He likely projects as a special teamer, although it's difficult to know if he would bring more to the table than Miles in such a role. I like Miles and hope they will look to keep him on the practice squad, should he clear waivers on Monday. Martin finished up preseason with 11 tackles and two passes defensed.
