Patriots defensive end Michael Bennett has reportedly been suspended for one game ahead of Week 7's matchup with the Jets on Monday Night Football.
The 11-year veteran reportedly was not happy with his role on the team and was not spotted at practice Tuesday.
Bennett, who hasn't started for the Patriots since Week 1 and has seen his usage percentage shrink in each game this season, spoke to ESPN's Jordan Schultz after the news of the suspension broke: "On Friday, I had a philosophical disagreement with my position coach that has led to my suspension. I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused."
Though Bennett's role with the team has seemingly gone down over the last few weeks, the suspension can still be considered a needed break for a Jets offensive line that has struggled early in the season and is now about to face arguably the best defense in the NFL.
Jets G Kelechi Osemele opted to have surgery on his shoulder, as confirmed by SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Osemele had started the first three games for the Jets before missing the last three with a shoulder and knee injury.
