The team believes Williams has only a bone bruise.
Williams, the Jets first-round draft choice out of Southern California, limped to the Jets' locker room after the Giants kicked off following Rashad Jennings' 1-yard touchdown run with 3:53 left in the first half.
Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson told reporters after the game that Williams texted him. "(Williams) said he's good."
When the Jets drafted Leonard Williams sixth overall the move seemed strange, but in light of the Jets slow-playing the Mo Wilkerson contracts and Sheldon Richardson's recent problems, adding a player like Williams -- arguably the best overall talent in the draft -- was the right play.
It's been a tumultuous offseason and preseason for the Jets defensive line and a serious injury to their first round draft pick was the last thing this team needed. It is good to hear that his injury is not all that serious and a few days or weeks rest should set Williams right ... of course I'll wait for the results of the MRI before fully exhaling.
