Colin Kaepernick has not played in an NFL game since January 1, 2017, but the quarterback could be making his return to NFL action in the near future.
Kaepernick will hold a private workout on Saturday in Atlanta, and SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has previously confirmed that both the Jets and Giants will be in attendance. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, more than 24 NFL teams will be on hand to watch the former 49er work out.
So which teams have the best odds of signing the QB? DraftKings Director of Sportsbook Johnny Avello has placed the following hypothetical odds:
- Bengals 7-1
- Bills 10-1
- Colts 12-1
- Steelers 14-1
- Bears 18-1
- Buccaneers 20-1
- Texans 22-1
- Raiders 25-1
- Lions 28-1
- Panthers 30-1
- Broncos 35-1
- Cardinals 45-1
- Jets 50-1
- 49ers 60-1
- Cowboys 70-1
- Patriots 75-1
- No Team Picks Him Up 5-6 (-120)
At 50-1, the Jets are nowhere near a favorite to sign the 32-year-old. The Jets drafted Sam Darnold with the third overall pick of the 2018 draft to be the team's starter for years to come, though the team's QB depth has been tested this year, with Trevor Siemian landing on IR and Luke Falk struggling before being released.
No odds were given for the Giants, who despite drafting Daniel Jones in the top-10 of this past NFL Draft, will be among the teams watching Kaepernick's performance.
The best odds from Avello, in fact, are on no team picking up the veteran.
Kaepernick's been out of the league since the end of the 2016 season, when he started his protest against police brutality and racial injustice with pregame kneeling during the national anthem.
A second round pick out of Nevada in 2011, Kaepernick took over as the 49ers' starting quarterback midway through the 2012 season. That year, he went-5-2 as a starter in the regular season and eventually led San Fran to a Super Bowl appearance against the Ravens.
Overall, Kaepernick is 28-30 as a starter over the course of his six seasons. He's thrown for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns (compared to 30 interceptions), and he's also racked up 2,300 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
