As expected, Sterling Shepard, Janoris Jenkins and Nate Solder have been cleared from the concussion protocol and will play this Sunday against the Bears, the Giants announced on Friday.

Shepard hasn't played since Week 5 and also missed the Giants' game during Week 2 after suffering his first concussion during Week 1. Shepard initially thought he would be OK to return against the Cowboys after his second concussion, but reported concussion like symptoms two days prior to the Week 9 matchup and remained out.

Jenkins and Solder both exited the Week 10 matchup with the Jets with concussions, but luckily the Giants had a bye week afterwards, so the duo will not miss a single game.

The Giants haven't led the NFL in much recently, but they had a big lead in one category through the end of October. No team played rookies more often than they did. And they led in that category by about 500 total snaps.

That only counted rookies, like quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, linebacker Oshane Ximines and corners Corey Ballentine and DeAndre Baker. It didn't count all their second-year pros like guard Will Hernandez, running back Saquon Barkley, defensive end B.J. Hill, linebacker Lorenzo Carter, and cornerbacks Grant Haley and now Sam Beal.

The point is, the Giants are young. Very, very young. And that might be the biggest reason to be optimistic about their future, and to believe that GM Dave Gettleman could have them on the right path.

If you read Giants RB Saquon Barkley's stat line from Sunday, you probably would've thought it was a joke. But the one yard he accumulated on 13 carries wasn't a joke in the slighest.

The Jets were able to penetrate the Giants' offensive line to get to Barkley quickly before he could make his way upfield. However, many believe that Barkley is still not 100 percent healthy since returning from a high ankle sprain he sustained in Week 3 against the Bucs.

Barkley has refuted it numerous times up until this point, but not as aggressively as he did on Tuesday when asked about those who believe he should be shut down for the rest of the season given the Giants' 2-8 record and playoff hopes nearly out of the cards.

Nate Solder left the field in the middle of the second quarter of the Giants-Jets matchup Sunday and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion.

Solder limped off the field and went into the medical tent on the sideline with less than eight minutes to play in the half, missing the remainder of that drive--Eric Smith made his NFL debut at left tackle for the Giants in Solder's absence.

The Giants scored their second touchdown of the game on the drive, but a bad snap by Zak DeOssie resulted in the Riley Dixon missing on a throw into the end zone for a two-point conversion. As a result, the Giants were still down 14-13.

The Giants waived DL Olsen Pierre and promoted OL Evan Brown off their practice squad on Saturday morning, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

The team needed some extra offensive line depth as C Jon Halapio is out with a hamstring injury and OT Mike Remmers is doubtful with a back injury for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Pierre, a third-year player out of Miami (FL), has played in nine games for the Giants this season and has eight tackles and two sacks. Pierre played 24 games for the Arizona Cardinals from 2017-2018, recording 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

There has been a dark cloud that has hovered over the Meadowlands for far too long. Too many years where the atmosphere felt stale, where it felt like a stretch to find any actual hope.

It doesn't feel that way around the Giants anymore.

"The energy is just different," said center Jon Halapio.
