Kerry Collins

The Colts agreed to terms Wednesday with former Giants QB?Kerry Collins, who may be asked to come right in and start if?Peyton Manning?hasn't completely recovered from offseason neck surgery when the season opens Sept. 11. ?The signing has drawn mixed reviews...

"We don't even know him, we ain't vanilla, man, we ain't no simple offense," receiver?Reggie Wayne?said. "So for him to come in here and be the starter, I don't see it. I think that's a step back."

Kerry Collins, who led the Giants to Super Bowl XXXV in January 2001, announced his retirement from the NFL today. Collins played 16 seasons in the NFL - five with the New York Giants - and threw for 40,441 yards, 11th on the?league's all-time list. In addition to the Giants, he played for the Panthers, Saints, Raiders, Ravens, and most recently, the Titans.

"The past several months have brought on much introspection, and I have decided that while my desire to compete on Sundays is still and always will be there, my willingness to commit to the preparation necessary to play another season has waned to a level that I feel is no longer adequate to meet the demands of the position," Collins said in a statement released today.

My greatest Kerry Collins memory took place on January 14, 2001, when the Giants beat the Vikings, 41-0, at Giants Stadium to win the NFC Championship. Collins threw five touchdown passes?- and had 381 total passing yards -?as Big Blue got on the scoreboard early and often, leading 34-0 at the half. Things just seemed so automatic for Collins and the Giants?that day, and what made it even?more special?was?having the great Pat Summerall calling the game on TV.

Giants DC Perry Fewell interviewed for the vacant Tennessee Titans' head coaching position yesterday. He is one of four candidates being considered for the job left open by the departure of Jeff Fisher, who left the Titans last week after a 16-year run.

Tennessee also interviewed Falcons' OC Mike Mularkey yesterday and have previously spoken with two internal candidates: OC Mike Heimerdinger and OL coach Mike Munchak.

as per John Glennon of The Tennesssean.....

January 28, 2001....Super Bowl XXXV.....Ravens 34, Giants 7

In one of the lowest points in my 45-year history of watching the team, the Giants' performance in Super Bowl XXXV has got to be as disappointing as they come...

The Giants had just crushed the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game, 41-0 and appeared to be a legit Super Bowl team.? But the Ravens defense was one for the ages in 2000.

No, you haven't traveled back to 2003. Kerry Collins led the Titans past Philadelphia earlier this afternoon, and by doing so has given the Giants a golden opportunity tomorrow night.

With a win over a drowning Dallas team, the Giants will break the tie for 1st in the NFC East. A win would also place New York in a two-way tie with Atlanta for 1st in the NFC.

Atlanta defeated Cincinnati today to advance to 5-2. The Falcons (and the Giants should they win) are a 1/2 a game behind the Jets and Steelers for 1st in the NFL.

When the Titans come to town tomorrow, Vince Young will be under center as Tennessee's starting quarterback. After he was benched last week, however, and given what's taken place with quarterbacks around the league so far this season, Kerry Collins may get?a shot at some point during Sunday's game. Basically, if Young plays well he stays in. If not, don't be surprised if Jeff Fisher goes to Collins just like he did last week in the Titans' 19-11 loss to the Steelers. This despite the fact that Fisher said this week that Young is, and will continue to be, the starting quarterback.

Young had two interceptions and a fumble in the loss last week, and he was benched for the fourth quarter. Immediately after lifting Young, Fisher said he did it to jump-start his team, and that there's no quarterback controversy in Tennessee. We've heard that before, however. Andy Reid said the same thing one day about Kevin Kolb. The next day, Michael Vick was the Eagles' starter.

Young was Collins' backup last year when the Titans started 0-6. The Titans are 1-1 as they head into East Rutherford. Young will have to play well or else Collins will get the chance to?reintroduce himself to Giants' fans.

Unprepared, understaffed, under-pressure and uncertain this NY Giants team has what it takes.?? Now, I love a year when the NY Giants are flying below the radar.?? I love a year when the "big mouth" Jets are telling the world how great they are; however, 2010 is starting to concern the Big Blue.

Injuries - 5 players key players came into camp recovering from recent surgery and at least 10 more have been injured this camp.? The offensive line is fragmented and the 2nd team defensive backs look, well....overwhelmed!

With final cuts days away, the Giants find themselves in a precarious position. Injuries have thrown the availability of several key players into question and providing adequate depth to remedy the situation may force the team to cut players that deserve to stay.
