Matthew Lombardi will not play against the Flyers tonight due to a groin injury and Alain Vigneault said that there was "not a chance" that Ryan Malone would play either of the games against the Flyers this week.

Malone didn't skate this past weekend or yesterday with a hip issue while Lombardi was slated to play tonight but hurt his groin during practice yesterday. Vigneault thinks that Malone might play in one of the games this coming weekend.

Vigneault said that he will have a better idea of Lombardi's status today but added that the situation is "unfortunate" because the Rangers need to see him on the ice.

9/28/14 | 2:38PM:Matthew Lombardi won't play against the Flyers tomorrow due to a groin injury he suffered in practice today. (Leonard)

Last week, before Lombardi played against NJ, Alain?Vigneault said " He is a guy that played in the league and played with Ulfie in Phoenix. We knew his skill set, lots of speed, quick on transition, smart player, can kill penalties. He fit a role that we were looking for. He for a couple of years was on the injured side and not play up to his potential. Last year he went to Europe and had a real solid season over there from the people who our scouts are talking to. He has his confidence back and for us, it was a player that has proven he can play at this level, can he still do it, we will give him an opportunity and see what happens.?

After the game, where Lombardi played 13:12, Vigneault said that it was his first game in the NHL in a long time and "we will take it at that."

For the 2014-15 season, any player with a cap hit under $925,000 that is in the AHL will not count against the NHL salary cap.

The formula that determines this number is the NHL minimum salary plus $375,000. (Cap Geek)

Neither Lee Stempniak, a cap hit of $900,000, or Matthew Lombard, $800,000, would count against the salary cap if sent to the AHL. (NY Post)

New Ranger Matthew Lombardi was on TSN Radio this afternoon to discuss his return to the NHL:

It's pretty cool. I wasn't really expecting this to happen, we were getting ready to leave to go back to Geneva at the end of July and this fell into my lap and it was hard to say no and it's a pretty cool thing. I am looking forward to it."

Did you think your NHL career was over, "You always have the hope and when I first went there I thought that maybe I would start there and see what happens but we have two girls and we started to enjoy it and the kids were doing good, loved it, and made friends and as the season went on I got used to it and the NHL was out of my mind and I signed an extension there for two years. My focus was going back to Europe and enjoying my time there and putting everything else behind me. With the Rangers, my agent had talked to them the last few years but there was never anything solid in terms of a deal or anything like that. This happened last minute and for myself I thought it was my last chance to maybe get back and play in the NHL."

Yes, it's true. The film, which was a 1973 TV movie titled "Legend in Granite", was hokey but Borgnine's resemblance and performance were fairly close.

Dan Lauria the New York native, who is making a splash on Brodaway in the lead of the new play "Lombardi", is a Giant fan at heart.?

He was interviewed in The New Yorker this week....

So you played football growing up.Oh sure. I grew up in Lindenhurst, Long Island, and I was captain of my football team. My sophomore and junior years we won the Rutgers Award for the best team on Long Island, and I went to college on a football scholarship and played at Southern Connecticut State University as a middle linebacker. So I knew who Vince Lombardi was before he went to the Packers, 'cause he was the offensive coordinator for the Giants.
