How do you get into the business? I'm asked this question all the time, and I am probably the wrong person to ask. Let's be real, I have my job because I used to throw a baseball at a high level.
Three things (two you can control)...
First, work hard.
Second, get as many reps (time on air) as you can.
Working hard seems automatic but you would be surprised how many people either don't have that blue-collar gene (it is a blue-collar job -- if done right) or are inundated with so much information today that they get lost (I feel this way at the Cheesecake Factory).
The repetitions will allow you to find your voice and to speak freely and frankly about the subject matter at hand.
Third (and most intimidating): Once you find your voice, will people want to listen to what you have to say? This part is somewhat out of your control. This is the "randomness of the subjective." Although some find success through loud impassioned thoughts, most of us have to err on being as smart and as original as we can. Then it is out of your hands. Bonne Chance!
Stay healthy, be kind to each other and PEACE.
