Before dropping their last two games, the Mets had won 15 of 16 to vault themselves firmly into the playoff race -- getting as close as a half game back of the second Wild Card spot.
The Mets are now 61-58 and 2.0 games back of the second Wild Card spot, and their playoff odds (per FanGraphs) and World Series odds are better now than they were on Aug. 6.
New York now has a 39.1 chance to make the playoffs, compared to 32.7 percent on Aug. 6. And those odds are still better than two of the teams right in the thick of the race with them -- the Phillies are at 8.4 percent, while the Brewers are at 25.3 percent.
As far as the Mets' World Series odds (per Bovada), they have improved from +2800 on Aug. 6 to +2200 now.
The Mets' odds were better than all but 11 teams back on Aug. 6. Now, their odds are better than all but seven teams.
With the fourth-best odds in the National League, the Mets' odds are actually better than the two teams they're chasing in the Wild Card race, with the Cardinals at +2500 and Nationals at +2600.
