After leaving Friday's meeting with the Atlanta Braves, Mets catcher Tomas Nido has been placed on the seven-day injured list with a concussion, the team announced on Saturday.
Nido was hit in the side of the head by the bat of Atlanta's Josh Donaldson as he followed through on a swing in the sixth inning. Nido left the game and Wilson Ramos replaced him.
The Mets called up veteran catcher Rene Rivera from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.
Rivera is batting a .254 average with 25 home runs this season. Rivera played in Flushing from 2016-17 until he was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs. He signed a minor league deal with the Mets earlier this offseason.
Rivera is with the Mets on Saturday as they continue their three-game set against the Braves, but he may not see much playing time during his stint with the Mets as Ramos entered the game on a 17-game hitting streak.
