have him pulled in the bottom of the sixth with a blister on his middle finger.
Matz went 5.1 innings, struck out six and walked two.
Yoenis Cespedes had a solo shot in the first and Wilmer Flores had a two-run shot in the sixth, which put the Mets up 3-2.
Addison Reed pitched the 7th and had a huge strikeout of Martin Prado, but it was the 8th where the wheels really came off.
Manager Terry Collins didn't seem to concerned about the blister.
"I think we caught it before it got too bad," Matz said.
Justin Bour took Tyler Clippard yard to tie up the game. Clippard came out again for the 9th, and catcher Anthony Recker let a pitch get away from him, which put J.T. Realmuto on base on what would have been a strikeout. Martin Prado fouled off six pitches, and eventually hit a sacrifice fly that scored Realmuto.
The Mets are now 75-61 and are now four games ahead of Washington and are heading to our Nation's Capital for a critical series against the Nationals.
