Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard will be activated off the disabled list this week and start Wednesday against the Washington Nationals after he contracted hand, foot and mouth disease last week.
Syndergaard, who last pitched July 20, was placed on the 10-day DL after he contracted the disease while working at a youth camp during the All-Star break.
The Mets originally expected Syndergaard to miss just one start, and that will indeed be the case when he faces the Nationals on the road Wednesday at 12:05 p.m.
The 25-year-old Syndergaard allowed one run in five innings against the Yankees in his last start. Overall this season, he is 6-1 with a 2.89 ERA.
