There is skepticism about whether the Mets will be able to acquire 2B Ian Kinsler from the Tigers, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
The Mets have engaged in trade talks with the Tigers regarding Kinsler, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported in November. But the Mets have also shown interest in other options.
Marc Carig of Newsday reported that the Mets are interested in Josh Harrison of the Pirates, and the Mets plan to speak with the Marlins about 2B Starlin Castro once his trade is finalized, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post and Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. But a deal is "not likely," according to Carig.
The Mets have also shown interest in Cesar Hernandez of the Phillies, Brian Dozier of the Twins and Jason Kipnis of the Indians.
Kinsler is a career .273 hitter through 12 MLB seasons with the Tigers and Rangers, but hit .236 last season with 22 home runs and 52 RBIs.
The 35-year-old Kinsler is a four-time All Star and won a gold glove in 2016.
