Mets IF Ruben Tejada will be eligible for free agency after this season since the team gave him an extra day of service time as part of his recent arbitration settlement (Feb. 24).
Tejada, 26, had initially been scheduled to become a free agent after the 2017 season.
Tejada hit .261 with a .338 OBP and .350 SLG last season for the Mets.
His season ended during Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers when he suffered a broken right fibula after Chase Utley rolled in to him while he was covering second base.
Asdrubal Cabrera is expected to be the Mets' starting shortstop this season, with Tejada and Wilmer Flores coming off the bench.
