Mets manager Mickey Callaway was very pleased with his team's performance Tuesday night, as they beat the AL Wild Card-leading Indians 9-2.
"They're relentless in their approach, no matter who comes in, they're up there grinding it out," Callaway said. "And that's what good teams do, they add on. Tonight, we added on enough to where we could stay away from Lugo and Diaz. Now we're set up in a better situation tomorrow because our hitters are relentless."
Starting pitcher Steven Matz went 6.1 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out seven. He spoke after the game about facing playoff contenders and what that means for the team.
"I think we're playing good baseball, and I think we're just going to bring our best every time here," Matz said. "I think we have a lot of confidence in ourselves. ... the opponent, necessarily, we're not going to put any added pressure on ourselves, just going to go out and play our best baseball at this point."
