According to Larry Brooks, Nathan Gerbe has not reported to the Wolf Pack and the Rangers will place him on waivers to terminate his contract.

Gerbe will head to Switzerland to play this season.

It had been noted previously that Gerbe had options in Europe if he didn't make the team.

The Rangers have announced that Boo Nieves, Tanner Glass and Nathan Gerbe have been assigned to Hartford.

Magnus Hellberg has also been assigned to Hartford and Gabriel Fontaine has been returned to his QMJHL team.

Glass and Gerbe need to clear waivers to be sent to Hartford. Gerbe reportedly has options to play in Europe.

Rangers forwards Nathan Gerbe and Josh Jooris have options to play in Switzerland if they don't make the Rangers' final roster, according to Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve.

Gerbe's contract with the Swiss team was dissolved when he signed with the Rangers in July, writes Steve Zipay in Newsday, but they retain his rights and could bring him back if the Rangers are amenable.

Jooris, who is dealing with a groin injury, has a "license" to play in Switzerland.

Lindy Ruff coached Nathan Gerbe when he joined the NHL and said that Gerbe is a "tough, in-your-face player" that can be a pain for the opposition to deal with. (Oakland Press)

Ruff added. "he has a lot of heart and isn't afraid of anybody. And he's done everything I've asked him to do on the ice."(Oakland Press)

Gerbe's former coach in Carolina, Kirk Muller, said that he plays a "feisty" and "aggressive" type of game and that he is a "real competitor" who works hard and has "great skill." (Oakland Press)

Nathan Gerbe said that even after 394 games he still carries a chip on his shoulder. (NYR)

He said that he still goes out on the ice "looking to prove everybody wrong" and that those feelings will never leave him. (NYR)

Gerbe said that those feelings make him aggressive on the ice and added "I love to compete and I hate to lose any battles. I've always been a smaller player, even when I was younger, so I have tremendous drive and competitiveness, and, yes, a chip on my shoulder." (NYR)

The Rangers have signed forward Nathan Gerbe to a one-year deal worth $600,000. (Dreger)

Gerbe, 5-5 and 178, had 3 goals and 4 assists in 47 games for Carolina last season.

The Hockey News says, "Has quickness, hockey sense, playmaking acumen and shiftiness. Provides a lot of energy and is stronger on his skates than expected. Packs a dangerous shot and is gritty (willing to fight for the puck in the corners)."
