Sam Amico ranks the Nets at No. 10 in his early power poll, but is one of the few pundits to say Brooklyn could actually finish higher.
"Not relying on departed Deron Williams is probably a good thing," Amico writes. "But depth could be an issue. If not, the Nets may go places."
The only way depth up front won't be an issue is if Jarrett Jack proves he can handle the starting duties, and one of Billy King's many lottery tickets pans out behind Jack for depth. If I have to pick one, I'd say Shane Larkin has the best shot, particularly with the chip on his shoulder left by Phil Jackson's criticism of his work in the triangle offense.
Look, the Nets aren't the Cavs or the Hawks. They're not going to be pushing the Raptors for the Atlantic division title. But are they really that much worse than Boston or Indiana? I don't think so. It remains to be seen, but I still think Brooklyn will hang around the eighth seed all season long.
