The Least You Should Know
[sny-box]Brooklyn relied on a 12-0 run spanning the first and second quarters to establish a big lead that they never relinquished.
The Nets were dominant on the boards, holding a 53-31 rebounding advantage, with 17 of the 53 being offensive rebounds. Those second chances helped the Nets get some easy buckets inside.
Brook Lopez (14), Joe Johnson (10), Alan Anderson (12) and Andray Blatche (10) all finished in double figures. For the Heat, LeBron James poured in 16 points, and Chris Bosh also scored 16 points with nine rebounds.
Mason Plumlee played with great energy off the bench, scoring eight points and grabbing eight boards.
The Nets did not exactly shoot lights out from the field (32-of-74, 43.2 percent), but Miami was ice cold all game from the outside, finishing 21-of-66 (31.8 percent).[/sny-box]
Fresh off having his jersey number retired, Jason Kidd and the Nets got right down to business.
It was great to hear the boos from the fans whenever James touched the ball. This is going to be quite the rivalry in the east, and even though it’s still just preseason, the seeds were planted tonight.
The ball movement from the Nets was impressive, especially from Kevin Garnett. KG may not show up on the stats sheet every night – he only scored two points in this one on 1-of-2 shooting – but his instincts on the court make him a game changer.
But Garnett’s counterpart, Paul Pierce, has still struggled to find his shooting stroke. He finished 2-of-8 from the field, including 1-of-7 from three-point range, for six points. Even so, he did contribute six rebounds and seven assists.
Again, the Nets did not shoot particularly well, but they cleaned up on the glass – especially the offensive boards – and held an 38-16 advantage in points in the paint. Still though, the Nets’ 25 turnovers were way too many, but the team was able to play a little bit more lax having opened such a large lead early.
Don’t expect that to be the case during the regular season against the Heat.
Brooklyn continues its preseason schedule Wednesday night at the TD Garden in Boston to take on the Celtics. Tip is at 7:00 PM.
