Brooklyn and Minnesota split their two matchups last season, with the road team victorious both times.
Minnesota is led by 25-year-old forward/center Kevin Love, an early season MVP candidate. He is averaging 25.4 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Love missed both games against the Nets last season due to injuries, so this will be the first time he's faced the Nets since their move to Brooklyn.
Key Matchup: It'll be a battle of past vs. present with Kevin Garnett matching up against Love. Garnett, who spent his first 12 NBA seasons in Minnesota, is 7-0 in his career against them, but thus far this season, Garnett has struggled with younger, athletic big men. I expect it to be a matchup that the T-Wolves may try to exploit early and often.
Now, while I imagine that the Nets will try to avoid letting KG defend Love one-on-one as much as they can, I'm not sure there's a player on Brooklyn's roster than can match up well with Love. He is an outstanding player, with the ability to dominate in the paint, as well as hit an occasional shot from the beyond the arc as well.
Nevertheless, no stat line from Love will be unpalatable if the Nets win the game.
Player to Watch: Shaun Livingston will get the start at point guard tonight, with Deron Williams out. The 28-year-old is averaging a career-high 9.5 points per game with 3.4 assists per game for Brooklyn. Livingston has looked like one of the offseason steals in the NBA. He's given the Nets quality minutes no matter what role is asked of him, and they'll need a big game from Livingston again tonight if they want to end this skid.
