A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 9, the first week of the 2012 season.

Entering today, only two rookie quarterbacks in NFL history had passed for at least 300 yards on Kickoff Weekend: Peyton Manning (302 yards, 1998) and Cam Newton (422 yards, 2011). That total was matched today when Washington?s Robert Griffin III (320 yards) and Indianapolis? Andrew Luck (309 yards) accomplished the feat.

Throughout the summer, New York Giants? head coach Tom Coughlin encouraged his team to ?Build A Bridge? to last year, when it was about being ?All In? and making sure to ?Finish.?

Forget finishing, the Giants (0-1) couldn?t even start well, while allowing their underdog and hated NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys (1-0) to waltz into MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford and walk away with a season-opening 24-17 upset victory.

Not many in this business can say they've been actively following this Cowboys-Giants thing as long as I have (45 years and counting). Maybe Joe Benigno, but he's really a Jet guy.

The Giants have had the better of Jerry's kids as of late (five of six; six of eight) but it wasn't always that way....

When the Cowboys entered the NFL in 1960, the Giants were a power. From '60-'63, the Giants held a 5-1-1 advantage. But once 1964 came, the Giants fell off the map. The Cowboys, under former Giants' DC Tom Landry, became America's team.

The Dallas Cowboys invade MetLife Stadium to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants to kickoff the NFL's 2012 season. The game is being played on a Wednesday night instead of the traditional Thursday to avoid conflict with the final night of the Democratic National Convention. It is the first NFL regular season game held on a Wednesday in 64 years.

The game will be played with replacement officials. The NFL has locked out the regular officials as part of a labor dispute.

Kickoff: 8:30pm Eastern

Our friend Andy Furman of Ultimate NYG has a unique view on the Giants. His blog is the only one formally listed on Giants.com. He summed up the loss in Washington the other day...

If the Giants won this game, I'd be telling the bulls who were calling for 10-6 and the playoffs to calm down. If the Redskins had won this game, I'd be telling the bears likewise to remember what we said before the season started.... the early season games are not nearly as meaningful as Week 9 when the real season begins.

All Giants fans need to stop reading into this loss too much. Every team in the NFL smelled to varying degrees this weekend. Sloppy play. Injuries. Blown assignments. Post-lockout-syndrome is still here and the mistakes are abundant.

Today may be as bad as it gets....we hope. The Giants, under Tom Coughlin, traditionally come firing out of gate in September, then fade as the season unwinds. This year, they have chosen to forego that early surge and just mail the season in on opening day. ?It's as if they were saying Why bother?

In one of the most uninspired performances the Giants have put forth in a September game, Giant fans are left to wonder:

If Rex Grossman lit us up for 300-plus yards what are Michael Vick, Tony Romo, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Mark Sanchez and Tom Brady going to do to us...?

We would like to take moment to remember the nearly 2800 souls lost on this day ten years ago at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA.

Teams from two of those locales - the Giants and the Redskins - will face off this afternoon at FedEx Field outside of the nation's capital.

Kickoff: 4:15pm

This week's Manning Bowl is going kill ratings-wise, that's a given.? But the NFL knocked 'em dead last week, too, with many quality matchups and games spread over a five-day stretch.

Beginning with the Thursday night NFL season opener, viewers across the country got back to football and tuned their televisions to NFL games in record numbers last week.

NFL Kickoff 2010 was the most-watched opening weekend since 1987 with an average of 19.5 million viewers for games on Sept. 9-13. In addition, all four NFL broadcast partners had increases in Kickoff Weekend viewership.

The Giants defeated the Carolina Panthers yesterday, 31-18, in the first game ever at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Eli Manning threw three touchdowns - all to WR Hakeem Nicks - to lead the uneven effort over a sub par opponent. He also threw three interceptions.? All three passes were either tipped or muffed by a Giants' receiver.

The Giants defense was flat in the first half, then dominant in the second.? They displayed some holes, but were clutch when it counted, intercepting Panthers' QB Matt Moore three times in the end zone to thwart scoring drives - the ultimate "bend but don't break" defense.?
