Tonight, the Nets look to make it five in a row when they host the defending champion Miami Heat on nickname jersey night at the Barclays Center. Both teams will wear nicknames in place of their last names on the back of their jerseys tonight, but it won't be fun and games come tip off time.

The Nets beat Miami in their home opener back in November, and they might be catching the Heat at a good time tonight, as Miami will be playing their fifth game in seven days. Dwyane Wade may not suit up tonight for rest purposes, which might even it up for the Nets who are still without their two best players.

Brooklyn is 4-0 since the calendar turned to 2014, a season-high win streak that's helped even up their home record to 9-9 on the season. The Nets haven't beaten the Heat two meetings in a row since the 2007-08 season, and they also haven't won more than five games in any single month yet this season.

On Friday night, the Nets will host the Heat in the first of a few "nickname games" that the NBA is presenting this season.

I have to say I just don't quite get the fascination with this marketing stunt by the NBA and its higher ups. What is the point of this other than to sell tickets and make consumers spend over $100 for another jersey with a players "nickname" on it??I thought nicknames on jerseys were worn by fans who had them custom made with their own names on the back, not NBA players in official NBA games.

Come on, man. Let's get real here.
