The Nets beat the Boston Celtics?to win for the 10th time in their last 11 games. It?certainly?wasn't a pretty game, as the two teams both shot under 40% from the field, but it also wasn't your typical January matchup.

For the first time in his career, Paul Pierce played against the only franchise he'd ever known since coming into the league in 1998. He and Kevin Garnett were teammates in Celtics green for six seasons, but they were visitors at the TD Garden on Sunday.

The atmosphere was electric all night long, with thunderous cheers and classy first-quarter video tributes for the two future Hall of Fame Celtic legends.

Has the Brook Lopez injury put Paul Pierce on the trading block?

Bleacher Report's Howard Beck writes that the Nets could look to trade Pierce for future considerations if they truly believe they can't compete without their star center, and speculates a reunion with his former coach could be in the cards:

[sny-box]Nets officials must now confront the same calculus: If the title chase is lost, is there any reason to keep Pierce? Is there any reason not to trade him by the Feb. 20 deadline??Even at 36, Pierce could be valuable as a short-term rental for a contending team. A reunion with Doc Rivers in Los Angeles seems more than plausible, if the Nets and?Clippers?can work out the details.[/sny-box]

Kevin Garnett will not play tonight against the Sixers.?Jason Kidd will give Garnett a rest.

Joe Johnson is a game time decision due to personal reasons.

Just as Kidd held out Brook Lopez on Monday against a weaker Sixers team (and was rewarded with a blow out win), Kidd will take a similar approach with Garnett. With a four game week on the horizon, which includes two match ups with the Pacers, this seems like a good idea. Expect Mirza Teletovic to get the start at the four.

"It's easy to sit here and talk to you guys about what kind of night I had. But bottom line, I really don't care. We lost the game. That's pretty much all that matters. We come out here and try to win as a team. It's not about how good Paul Pierce is playing. [Against Washington], we had the inability to rebound. We didn't defend the three and it cost us the game. And that's all I'm worried about."

Paul Pierce is getting rid of his protective glove.

Pierce told reporters after practice that he won't be wearing the glove that covered his broken hand?unless he feels further pain. Pierce said he feels more comfortable shooting without it.

Since returning from the non-displaced fracture in his hand, Pierce is shooting 38.4% from the field (10-for-26). However, he is 8-for-16 (50%) in his last two games, and?he's 7-for-14 from three (50%) over the four game stretch since the injury.

With Deron Williams back, the Nets offense was back in business this week:

Finally,?shots are dropping for Brooklyn. The Nets shot a stunning 55.7% against Boston, thanks in large part to open looks and a solid paint presence (that has a lot to do with Brook Lopez's return). They followed that up with a 44.6% effort against the Clippers. Williams looking like a top tier point guard is creating space for everyone, and the Nets haven't gotten this many good looks in weeks. Kevin Garnett's shot is finally coming around, though it still won't set the world on fire, and Joe Johnson had a money outing against L.A. Even Paul Pierce showed some vintage looks.

Sean from New Paltz, New York writes: I'm excited that now that the Nets are getting healthy, this is the time where they'll finally turn into the team we expected them to be. What do you think? Are these last two games the real Nets? Or is this just a mirage against weak opponents?

Nets fans are searching for something to be positive about (justifiably so) in this mess of an early season and?the ?win over Boston certainly is a place to start. It was probably the best this team has played all year. With Deron Williams coming back, and Paul Pierce surprising everyone with an early return, it looks like we can finally see what this team is all about. I still need to see Andrei Kirilenko on the floor, but beggars can't be choosers, I suppose.

That said, with all the optimism coming from the D-Will return, I would still pump the brakes a bit and not go too crazy with a single two-game winning streak. ?I want to see them win tonight against a road weary Clippers team that is coming off a game last night in Boston.?If they can play with the same energy and passion as last game tonight and grab another win it could make me start to think that maybe they have found something.

At least one person thinks Paul Pierce needs to receive more minutes to find his groove: Pierce's former head coach and current Clippers head man Doc Rivers.

Rivers told Bleacher Report's Howard Beck that Pierce isn't done, and he thinks he'd actually benefit from?more?minutes in the Nets' rotations:

[sny-box]"[Paul] can score anywhere. I think he was more uncomfortable with the short minutes that they were [playing him], like they did with Kevin. And that?s not Paul. Paul?doesn?t work under those type of minutes?at least, in my opinion he doesn?t. He?s a guy that needs a rhythm to play. In Kevin?s case, on a 20-minute restriction, of course his numbers are going to be down. So I think at some point, he probably is going to have to play more minutes to improve, so he can get a better rhythm himself."[/sny-box]

In recent years, the Nets have had a bit of a revolving door at the small forward and power forward spots. They've typically had a strong back court, but often times lacked a front court that was a sufficient compliment. Brook Lopez emerged as an All-Star last season as the Nets got back to the NBA postseason, but the two forward spots were still obvious weak spots that needed to be addressed this offseason. And addressed they were.

A lot of times, filling a need works better in theory than in reality, but for Brooklyn, the reality of filling those holes in the front court manifested in a way few could have dreamed of. Out go Gerard Wallace and Kris Humphries, in come future Hall of Famers Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Suddenly, the Nets' front court is as good on paper as it's been in a long time, and it goes far beyond the two Boston imports.

The trio of Lopez, Garnett and Pierce will get the majority of the attention, and with a combined 26 All-Star selections, that's no surprise. But the big men coming off the bench are no joke either, as Jim Mancari discussed earlier. Andray Blatche is coming off an outstanding first season in Brooklyn, and he may see a lot more minutes this year as part of a "Twin Towers" package alongside Brook Lopez. The two 7-footers have been a dynamic duo when they've played together, and that hasn't gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.

The back-and-forth between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets this offseason has been tremendous.

It's the same teams that finished in top five a season ago, except teams 2-5 are scrambled up. In 2012, the Knicks finished second in the Eastern Conference, followed by the Pacers, Nets and Chicago.

Earlier this week, ESPN Insider projected J.R. Smith to be a top-10 shooting guard in 2013-14. Now, the site has shifted its focus onto the forwards.

Projecting the top 10 power forwards for the upcoming season, analyst Bradford Doolittle placed Carmelo Anthony in the No. 10 spot. According to Doolittle, Anthony's 11 WARP -- the first double-digit offensive efficiency total -- is combated by a poor defensive effort.

"His offensive efficiency spiked with his position shift, and his acceptance of the move," Doolitte wrote. "The downside of the tweak is Anthony's lack of defensive acumen. His defensive rebounding was fine when he was a 3, but one position over, it doesn't look too good. Anthony does, without a doubt, score a lot of points. Make of that what you will."

In an interview with HoopsWorld.com at the 2013 adidas Nations camp, New York Knicks guard/forward Iman Shumpert discussed an array of topics, ranging from his expectations entering his third year, the team's second-round exit in the playoffs and the hype surrounding the rest of the Eastern Conference.

Coach Mike Woodson wants to see Shumpert improve his offensive game this summer, and that's precisely what the third-year swingman is doing.

Though he left the Knicks Summer League early, Shumpert has made a habit of working on his shooting this offseason. Shumpert is also keeping in shape so he can be an asset on both offense and defense.

Paul Pierce

Now that the Brooklyn Nets have made the massive trade to bring in Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett everyone wants to know how the pieces will fit.

The 10 time All-Star and 2008 NBA Finals MVP looked a bit old against the New York Knicks in the playoffs this past season and some of it had to do with the increased minutes he played. The workload that Pierce was subjected to was due to the season ending injury suffered by Rajon Rondo earlier in the year.

I was anxiously awaiting the Brooklyn Nets? pick at No. 22 and hoped they would select a big man to provide depth on the bench, which they did in Mason Plumlee.

The team had a solid core that had just won 49 games, and now just needed a few more pieces to the puzzle to improve on what was ultimately a successful first year in the borough of Kings.

So the Brooklyn Nets acquired two Hall of Famers to team up with three superstars to form easily one of the best ? if not the best ? starting five in the NBA.

The blockbuster trade sending Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets from the Boston Celtics is official, meaning the Nets starting lineup will feature a combined 35 All-Star appearances and be worth $82 million.

Last season, one of the Nets? strengths was the team?s depth. The team received significant contributions from the ?Bench Mob? including Andray Blatche, C.J. Watson, Keith Bogans and at times Jerry Stackhouse.

On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 101-93.

The Skinny: The Celtics raced out to the early lead, relying on hot three-point shooting to open an eight-point lead. But Joe Johnson found his outside stroke, and the Nets responded with a 13-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by C.J. Watson. Brooklyn led by one after one.

Deron Williams took control offensively to open the second quarter, helping to increase the Nets? lead to six. Boston?s second unit immediately fought back to regain the lead, but from there the Nets went on a 15-4 run to lead by 10 at the break. D-Will scored 11 points in the quarter, and things began to get chippy as Kevin Garnett picked up a technical foul for a skirmish with Reggie Evans.
