Baseball America is into their league-by-league top 20 lists and has named Mets RHP Rafael Montero the #20 prospect in the GCL.

Ben Badler wrote this about Montero:

Montero's best pitch is his fastball, which sits at 90-93 mph and touches 95 with late hop, making it tough for hitters to pick up. His fastball plays up because his command of the pitch was so advanced for Rookie ball. He'll need to improve his secondary pitches, a fringy changeup and a below-average breaking ball, though he throws them both for strikes.
Montero's interesting in that he signed late by international standards - he'll be 21 in October - but he blew through four levels in the system this year.

A: @ Asheville Tourists 10, Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The Gnats actually took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when LF Rafael Fernandez (pictured) singled home Robbie Shields, but it didn't last.

The Tourists blasted a pair of home runs against RHP Taylor Whitenton (3-1, 3.74). ?It was the first time in 2011 that the first-place Gnats had given up 10 runs in a game. ?Savannah pitching walked 12, and middle infielder Luis Nieves worked the final inning in relief to save the bullpen for Tuesday's 11:05 am matinee.

Saturday: Jupiter Hammerheads 8, @ St. Lucie Mets 2Sunday: St. Lucie Mets 11, @ Jupiter Hammerheads 5Sunday, Jeurys Familia was a Wilmer Flores error from a six-inning shutout.? With one out and one on, instead of turning two, Flores committed an error that kept the inning going.? Familia then gave up a single, a grand slam and and another home run for this line: 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 B, 6 K, 2 HR.? That's now 36 strikeouts against seven walks in his last 26.1 innings.? I'm hoping to get a Familia post up for later Monday.

Rafael Fernandez was the hitting star on Sunday, going 4-5 with a double and two RBI.? He was 2-4 with a triple on Sunday.? Fernandez, who just turned 22 at the beginning of the month, has hit .312/.343/.455 in 46 games for St. Lucie, significantly better than his .253/.309/.360 line in Savannah.? He has some real believers in the organization, and scouts like his athleticism.? Those numbers are no joke in the FSL.
