5/24/14 | 3:56PM: Alain Vigneault said in French today that he hopes to coach Pouliot for more than one season. (Daily News)
4/11/14 | 1:29PM: The Rangers have expressed interest in bringing Benoit Pouliot back next season and Pouliot is interested in staying in New York, according to his agent. (Daily News)
His agent says that he doesn't think things will be dealt with until after the season ends and he has "no reason to believe" that something won't get done to keep Pouliot in New York. (Daily News)
Pouliot, 27, is playing under a one-year contract worth $1.3 million.
Since his entry-level contract expired following the 2008-09 season, Pouliot has played each year on a one-year contract:
- 2009-10: $803,250 (Minnesota then traded to Montreal)
- 2010-11: $1.35 million (Montreal)
- 2011-12: $1.1 million (Boston)
- 2012-13: $1.8 million (Tampa Bay)
- 2013-14: $1.3 million (Rangers)
Pouliot had 2 goals and 2 assists in the first 27 games of the season. Pouliot was scratched on 12/7/13, played on 12/10/13 and was scratched again on 12/12/13.
He has played every game since (49 games) and has 12 goals and 18 assists.
On his better play during the season, Pouliot said on MSG last night "It's tough when you get scratched or when you start like we did, it's not like we were playing bad but the production wasn't there. We weren't getting the points we wanted and couldn't put the puck in the net. He sat Zucc, sat me for a couple of games and it's a wake up call and just to work on your game and get those bounces and I think second part of the season has been awesome."
Pouliot has the second highest Corsi rating on the Rangers with 55.2%, meaning that when Pouliot is on the ice at 5 on 5 the Rangers control 55.2% of the shot attempts.
Adam Rotter: I think Pouliot is deserving of a two-year deal and understands that he has found a spot with the Rangers where he has a nice role and good chemistry with linemates. He has moved around the last few years and looks like he has found stability with the Rangers and I think a deal can be reached that works for both sides, maybe two-years and $1.8 million per year.
